Who are we? We are the affordable option to what may sometimes be an expensive exercise in doing trademark registrability searches, reserving a company or close corporation name and patent searches.
Who are we NOT...? We are NOT attorneys, nor are we trademark or patent agents: we are authorised agents that the attorneys and agents use to do the research at the trademarks, companies and close corporations offices when they receive instructions from their clients. We are a dedicated team spending the full working day, Mondays to Fridays, at the offices of CIPC (Companies and Intellectual Property Commission) doing searches on the official South African databases of the trade marks-, patents- and companies / close corporation offices. Our extensive experience stems from long years of being employed by some of the big trademark- and patent attorneys. In March 1997 we decided to go "freelance" - we now have some of the largest intellectual property attorney firms as our clients!
Very important: By instructing us, you give us a mandate to do a search and / or facilitate the lodging of your application - we cannot act as an address for service; all follow-up queries from CIPC need to be addressed by yourself or a qualified attorney. ***Our offices will be closed from 23 December 2011 and reopen on 10 January 2012.***
A word or two from one of our clients: "Using An Intermediary: I’ve called Sorita Pullin, www.trademarksearch.co.za, an intermediary, for want of a better (more descriptive) term. Sorita Pullin provide search and registration services to customers; they are not lawyers so they don’t provide legal support, but they work for lawyers so they are able to apply that knowledge to the specific services that they provide. I’ve decided to use them because, in terms of my assessment, they provide the best option for my business. (I haven't found a similar service but there may be others). The turnaround time for the initial search was less than 24 hours. I received both a search report and an opinion on the mark’s suitability for registration, and I’ve just sent off the payment receipt . It’s also all done online and with emails with very little admin so far. The way I look at it an initial search and registration with Sorita Pullin is cheaper than only doing a search through a lawyer – and since they do searches for lawyers I’m very comfortable with their result. If an objection is raised down the line, I’ll then engage the services of a lawyer. Lawyers are smart, I'm sure they'll get up to speed pretty quickly. " A-L. |
